Introducing kids to frogspawn and tadpoles…
With some helpful direction we find frogspawn at the local park and check in as it develops… We also find something undefined but wriggly in the garden bucket at home!

Activities for ten year olds in the Wye Valley
A day out in the area around Monmouth. We visit the animals at Raglan Farm Park; go canoeing on the Wye with Yofi Paddlesports and visit the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo.

Visiting farms with kids and finding friendly (happy) animals
A bit further afield: Finding opportunities to interact with farm and zoo animals. Meeting some new-born lambs, visiting Jimmy’s farm and finding some extra ones on the way to meeting the babies at London Zoo.

Watching and making nests and spotting baby birds with children
It’s nesting season and we’re appreciating it. We find a swan on her nest and watch for babies, and then try making a nest ourselves in the back garden. No baby birds spotted yet but we’ll add on to here when we find them.

Does playing with pets count as a nature play challenge?
The first pet related challenges: Welcoming a kitten to the family; making kitten toys and making an obstacle course for the pet rabbits.

Looking for animal and bird tracks in the mud (321)
Seeing if we can track birds and animal visits in the garden mud. The first attempt is fun but only definitely deliver pet rabbit prints.

Bird challenge week (339-336, 334)
Spotting and counting birds on the school run and out and about in town; failing to feed them in the back garden; making a bird whistle and having a lot of fun feeding seagulls and pigeons.
