Trails, bales and snails started, back in 2020, with the idea for a Christmas Trail. Back during the Covid-19 pandemic, Christmas was approaching and we were all dealing with isolation and social distancing. I wanted to create something the local kids could do that would be safe and get them outside. This became the Christmas Twinkle Trail and is now a regular annual event in our local town.

At home though, B and I were doing lots of other types of trail too. We did Treasure Hunts round the house and Scavenger Hunts round the local park. I started making a Christmas Eve Treasure Hunt for her and we’d do Easter Egg Hunts every year. I found them to be my doorway into finding activities outside in the natural world. They encouraged us to explore and discover. Now B is older she loves to make them and I get to be the participant.
I’ve found myself being asked to do more public hunts and trails that can be shared with other families. In 2025, St Fagan’s National Museum of History, commissioned a Treasure Hunt. In Easter 2026 I did my first public Easter Egg Hunt and I’m currently working on a new type of summer hunt event for 2026 (details to come soon!).
If you’d be interested in hosting a hunt or trail do get in touch. If you’d like to make your own, check out our thoughts below.

Ideas for scavenger hunts…
I used to find scavenger hunts harder than treasure hunt and now marvel at how easy they are. It’s just getting your head round them and the kids ready for some serious spotting activity.
